Structured Exchange of BCF Issues Based on Open BIM Standards

poolarPROJECT BCF Issue Management

Document Model-Based Reconciliations and Assign Tasks and Responsibilities Directly

The BCF Issue Management additional module implements model-based communication between different users, enabling collaboration regardless of the original BIM software used. poolarPROJECT is the leading system for the distribution, organisation and evaluation of BCF issues in accordance with the internationally open BCF standard of the buildingSMART Group.

Votes, change requests and meeting results, etc. can be logged directly in the model representation as BCF issues and the resulting tasks and responsibilities can be assigned.

Digital Workflow

The Issue Manager According to the BCF Standard

BCF issues can be displayed and edited in poolarPROJECT in different ways – depending on the work context and requirements. This allows everyone involved to keep track of open points, responsibilities and deadlines – whether in the dashboard, directly in the model or in the list view in the module:

Dashboard
Display of all open BCF issues including deadlines and responsibilities – for quick monitoring of the current task situation.

IFC viewer (3D model)
Display of all model-related issues including viewpoints – with direct navigation to the relevant position in the IFC model.

Module view
Clear tree and list structure with detailed view – ideal for systematic work and processing several issues in succession.

The integrated IFC viewer enables the direct display and navigation of 3D models in open IFC format – without additional software or local installations. Models can be displayed, penetrated, filtered and analysed in the web browser:

Browser-based
Opens IFC files without detours, software installations or additional licences – quickly, securely and from any location.

Navigation
Individual components, specialised models or sub-areas can be shown or hidden.

Viewpoints & comment function
Can be combined with predefined views and issues – in ideal interaction with the optional BCF issue manager.

In poolarPROJECT, the 3D model forms the visual and spatial basis on which BCF issues are precisely localised. This is where the direct link between an issue and the underlying model is established:

Automatic model display for issue selection
Thanks to the integrated autoload function, the associated IFC model is automatically loaded when a BCF image is called up and the exact position is displayed in the viewer. Regardless of whether the issue is opened from the list or dashboard view, the affected location in the model is directly accessed and visually highlighted.

Integration into common BIM programmes
BCF issues are often created directly in authoring and testing programmes such as Revit® orSolibri® and are already located there. The BCF issue manager links these issues with the released IFC models in the project space and ensures that all project participants have access to the current model status.

The BCF issues go beyond mere documentation and localisation in the 3D model – they form the basis for structured processing and targeted distribution of tasks. Change requests and coordination can be recorded directly in the model and translated into specific tasks:

Automatic task linking and status tracking
Each BCF issue contains important information such as name, description, user, phase, priority and definable categories. This detailed information makes it possible to define responsibilities and deadlines directly. As soon as an issue is created, tasks can be automatically generated from it and clearly displayed in the dashboard. This means that project participants always know which tasks are pending and who is responsible for their realisation.

Integrated communication and synchronisation functions
All project participants can provide feedback and discuss possible solutions via an integrated comment function. Thanks to bidirectional synchronisation – for example via the direct connection to Autodesk® Revit® – changes and updates are exchanged between the various systems “at the touch of a button”.

BIM Integrations

Interoperability Thanks to Open Formats and Plugins

Support for Different
BIM Authoring Tools

The support of open formats enables interoperability with a wide range of programmes (Autodesk® Revit®, Archicad, Allplan etc.):

File formats
Support of BCF (for issue data) and IFC (for models).

Open BCF standard
Cross-tool collaboration, as recorded issues are exchanged in accordance with the open BCF standard from buildingSMART.

 Connections to
Autodesk® Revit® and Solibri

Within the project spaces, activated IFC models can be directly synchronised with Revit® or Solibri (BCF Live Connector Server) and kept up to date:

Bidirectional
Communication takes place in both directions, with the project space serving as a mediator and centre point.

Speed
Close update interval allows working and exchanging with fewer delays.

Revit® is a registered trademark of Autodesk, Inc. / Solibri® is a registered trademark of the Nemetschek Group.

Basic Modules

The digital Workspace, with its structured Plan and File Storage, forms the centerpiece of collaboration in construction projects between all project participants. The Workspace follows the principle of a Common Data Environment (CDE) – a centralized platform for project-related information.

Go to Workspace with Plan and File Storage

Digital, transparent, and structured review of plans, either directly in the online editor or via your own PDF files, including task and deadline tracking.

Go to Planning Review

Efficient creation, linking, and tracking of meeting items and tasks with specific areas for different types of minutes.

Go to Meeting Minutes

Centralized collection of open and finalized decisions. The module ensures transparency of responsibilities and enables clear workflows instead of sprawling email chains across multiple approval levels.

Go to Decision Management

Additional Modules

Digital review, commenting, and approval of invoices, change orders, and hourly work in structured steps – with clear status indicators, deadline tracking, and complete documentation of the approval processes.

Go to Invoice Workflow

Issue Manager according to BCF standards: Distribution, organization, and evaluation of BCF issues directly in the 3D model – regardless of the BIM software used.

Go to BCF Issue Management

Centralized collection, structuring, and maintenance of space-related information—including technical requirements, equipment features, and other project-specific parameters that can be freely configured.

Go to Room Book

Construction Site Tools

Recording, locating, and processing defects directly on the construction site—including photos, status tracking, and notification of the responsible trades.

Go to Defect Management

Centralized, cross-trade documentation of construction progress – mobile recording and audit-proof storage, including weather data, photo documentation, and automated PDF reports.
